Hasegawa LunaDiver Stingray Testshot Paint Part 1, Anti-Flash White

Hasegawa LunaDiverFinally some progress to show! It’s been quite cold here in Tokyo and I need to work quasi “outside” because of both the paints I am using, Mr. Color and Gaia Notes Lacquer Paints. That plus I used a very hybrid style on this one with rattle cans, handbrushing and airbrush once again so the only times avaialble to me, late at night, have been too cold and too much of a disruption for the family. Thankfully a long weekend here has given me some marginally warmer daytime to use.

The process here is Mr. Color Gloss Black can, Mr. Color Gloss Grand Prix White can, handbrushing with a custom mix of Mr. Color Off white, Yellow and Gaia Notes ex-White to make up my version of an “Anti- Flash White”, a genre specific Maschinen Krieger name given to a yellowish off-white paint applied to Space Equipment as protection and then the same further diluted with Self Levelling Thinner and airbrushed to slightly reduce the handbrushed effect for the 1/35th scale.

It’s a slightly more involved process than most folks usually use but I feel it provides the best of all worlds, some of the speed and efficiency of both rattle cans and airbrush as well as the wonderful scaling and added interest effects through the brush marks that only hand-brushing can provide. Here my goal was to mimic the process on the 1/20 scale version and as possible reduce it down to 1/35.

Here’s the 1/20 scale at the same stage for comparison. Mystery 10 LunaDiverI really should have checked these photos before working on it this afternoon, I could have left it a little more untidy! :D

Next up, the camo scheme!
